A collection of workshops and resources that I developed, contributed to, or facilitated. It spans user experience, content strategy, and community strategy.
IntelliBridge

I led discovery research and synthesis to stand up a knowledge management initiative for a federal contract. Our cross-functional team of 4 was tasked with standardizing technical documentation across the program’s 9 product teams, but we were being micromanaged by program leadership.
I developed a template to walk my team through the synthesis process in Confluence. This is a recreation with facilitation notes added in. Feel free to make a copy of the workshop template.
Outputs included strategic pillars, team mission and vision, and a roadmap, which we used to justify our approach. We turned our product owner into a strategic partner and earned more autonomy to make day-to-day decisions. Take a look at the workshop I developed to walk my team through this process.
ICF Next

I worked with the web communications team from 5 state agencies to improve how they delivered child care information to parents, families, and professionals. I helped implement UX standards and best practices to bring their child care consumer education websites in compliance with the federal law. (Here’s an example of a webpage from Oklahoma. Before, it was just a wall of text.)
I developed trainings, webinars, and workshops to implement content and UX recommendations from heuristic analyses and content audits. Topics included user-centered design principles, content design best practices, web navigation patterns, Section 508/accessibility standards, and Federal Plain Language guidelines.
Association of American Medical Colleges

During the redesign of AAMC.org, the Digital Communications team lacked a clear and actionable strategy to make tactical design decisions. I led 2 design thinking (“voice of the audience”) workshops to help align our team around the business goals and user needs that the website should support. For the design thinking workshop, I developed a framework for a product vision canvas to facilitate discussions amongst the Digital Communications team.
The workshops helped us create a design brief that the Digital Communications Leadership Team used to facilitate conversations about content assessment and migration with subject matter experts throughout the organization. These conversations went well enough that we presented our plan to the AAMC Leadership Team to roll out strategic content briefs to guide subject matter experts during the content migration process.
CMX Media

CMX Media (acquired by Bevy) produces conferences, workshops, and training for the world’s largest network of community management professionals. The CEO wanted to create an on-demand training product that could become a recurring revenue stream and replace consulting work. Community members also wanted a comprehensive community strategy, not bits and pieces we’ve been delivering over articles.
I collaborated with the CEO and COO to produce a 4-week online training course on Fundamentals of Community Strategy. I helped develop the organizing framework for creating a brand community from scratch. I was the copy editor for all course materials and a co-facilitator for each session. People said some nice things about the course and the sections I designed on user research and content strategy.
